Saratoga Thoroughbred LLC is a registered limited
liability corporation operating in New York State. We have been in
the thoroughbred business for 5 years. We have grown from owning
only a 5% share of a racehorse to having 3 broodmares, a yearling,
two weanlings and a two-year old in training. We have sold two
yearlings that are now running on the New York circuit (Carson’s
Lady and Adirondack Counsel). Our growth can be attributed to
several factors. We have many knowledgeable
advisors and helpers. All of our horses have been cared for at Jansan Acres in Hudson Falls. Janet Ledford and Sandy
Lynch who together have over 60 years of experience in the horse
business, own the farm. We have also been fortunate to become
friends with two local trainers who have given us a great deal of
useful advice. Saratoga Thoroughbred LLC is a member of New York
Thoroughbred Breeders Association and through this membership we
have gained much knowledge of the racing and breeding business.
The focus of
our business plan is to
breed our mares to the best stallions we can afford and sell them
in New York to take advantage of the very generous breeding awards
offered by New York. We plan to sell them as yearlings through
either Fasig Tipton or Keeneland sales. We have done this
successfully with our first two yearlings. We currently have two
weanlings that we hope to sell next year.
After the sale of our second yearling we decided to acquire two
horses to enter into racing partnerships. We bred a mare
specifically to race her foal, Apalachee Warrior. We also
purchased a weanling by Crowd Pleaser that we plan to offer in
a partnership. Apalachee Warrior is a three year old now and is
in training. A partnership is being offered at this time.
L. A. Matinee Idol, our Crowd Pleaser, now a two year old and will be going
into training during the winter. A partnership in him will be
offered in the spring..
We now have a team that will keep us moving forward.
